Living in downtown Culver City at the moment, just received a job in Torrance near the 110 and Carson St. So where should I live?

I'm in my mid-twenties and love the CC area- the commute is fine from either downtown CC or the CC arts district, both of which are my style. I'd be open to moving the the Redondo/Manhattan/Hermosa area, but I don't want to pay a fortune and don't care much about being near the beach. Many friends and my boyfriend also live in CC, so I can't be too far away from that. The commute also has to be decent- I don't want to move geographically closer but so far from the 405 that it takes longer to get to work! Finally, I'd like to be able to walk to restaurants/movies, although it doesn't have to be a sprawling area.

Safe, funky, walkable, not too overpriced, and close to both Torrance and CC/Miracle Mile- any ideas? Specific streets? Thanks so much!

I'm sorry, but I don't get the appeal of Culver City. If Sony Pictures were to ever pull out of CC, it would die. The best of the city is built around Sony, and the rest is just ... YICK!

For the area your talking, yes, you have to stick close the beaches. Sorry.

If you are trying to move between Culver City and Torrance the beach cities are pretty much your best option. Hermosa is a cool town for a young twenty something. The further east you go from the beach the cheaper it will be.West Torrance is also nice and pretty affordable.I think you'll do fine in either four of these cities just depends on your price range.

why not just stay where your are? it sounds like you already have a life in culver city, so why leave? if you were relocating from out of town, i'd say "live where you work," but i don't think torrance is far enough to justify moving if you are happy where you are.

Great answer Katenik. It finally occurred to me that the commute from Culver City to Torrance would be an easier commute than the reverse since it's in the opposite of rush hour traffic.

Thanks for the input everyone! I think I will probably stay in Culver- it took me about 20 minutes door-to-door this morning for the commute, which few people in LA have. With gas/rent prices as they are, I thought moving closer would be a good financial decision- however, beaches can be expensive and it's all highway driving anyway.

As for the appeal of Culver- good restaurants, pretty streets, lots of people walking around, nice shady neighborhoods for running, parks, interesting cafes, close to everything- what's not to like?
