I am definitely looking towards going to Grad School out in California (probably right after graduation since I'm a history major), and they have a program in Urban Planning. I might not be "good enough" to get into UCLA, but my GRE scores are well above 1100 and my GPA will be above 3.3, which is what UCI's averages are.

Is it kind of a "reject" college, where people who got rejected from UCLA and Berkeley go? I'd definitely prefer UCLA and Berkeley over it, but it seems like it would be less stressful.

UCI is not a "reject" school. You'd get reprimanded for calling it that in OC. It is very highly regarded. Just because it's not on the "national map for sports teams" doesn't mean it's not one of the best schools in the country. (same boat as UC Santa Cruz.)

Academically, it would be near equals. Other than that, Irvine is in suburbia, their sports are in lower divisions, it doesn't have the history of the other 2.

UCI is definitely not a 'reject' school. It's very well thought of, and academically sound.

I have a few friends who got their master's degrees there, and they both have great jobs.

It's a fine school, on the third tier of UCs (1: Berkeley and UCLA; 2: San Diego; 3: Irvine and Davis). USC and UCLA have more renowned planning programs, but Irvine is also developing a graduate reputation.

I like USC as well for it's planning program, but it would be more expensive. But USC is also a lot (lot) more generous with financial aid.

USC is more generous with public funding for students? Isn't it a private school and UC Irvine is a state school.

I didn't mean PUBLIC funding. I just meant general aid financially. Their endowement is probably 6 times the size of even UCLA's

Let's not kid ourselves. UCI is a total reject school. When you don't get into Berkeley, UCLA, San Diego, Santa Barbara.............then its a coin toss UCI or UCR
