There's plenty of streets with highway numbers but the term highway doesn't really have much meaning anymore. Before the freeway system was built after WWII, the highways were the few streets that went long distances across the region. Today, they're just streets.

Well as odd as it my sound i was watching my favorite show(Sanford and son) and he was saying he got a pair of shoes out on the highway...I know his show is supposed to take place in watts on central ave at 91st. and it just got me thinking about the subject, what highway he might be talking about, etc...lol

lol.. I think that might fall under the category of "artistic license".

I hope you don't lose sleep over it.
