I went to Santa Clarita yesterday, and the place is real nice. I see why they want to move there. Did look real sterile, though, and a lot of fancy cars and shops.

I really don't think L.A.'s hipsters even THINK about Santa Clarita and Valencia.

However, a few of them (as well as some of those who have actually moved beyond hipster status and actually accomplished something) have gone to CalArts, which is located there (aka "UC Magic Mountain")

It's not hipsters as much as people who are interested in the region as a whole and don't prefer a ready-made, traffic-clogged outpost to serve as some kind of guiding example of what L.A. can be.

Oh and one last thing, why the hell was Magic Mountain closed! Damn it would have been so much fun to go there this week.

It is a time consuming commute to L.A. to and from. How about Pasadena or Glendale area. Much more of a mixture and not homogenized like sterile Santa Clarita. I am white and sometimes I feel like I am in the twighlight zone going through these cookie cutter, white bread, generic areas. It is so boring to me and so fake. Give me a town like Boston with a mixture of culture, architecture, and pride in their history. Went to Newport Beach, Laguna and Irvine yesterday out of curiousity. Soooooooo generic! So sterile, so Stepford Wives! Sooooo blah and so crowded. I saw ten year old girls wearing Chanel sunglasses and purses and couldn't believe the amount of Ferarri's we saw going 3 miles an hour. So stereo typical of what California appears to be by outsiders besides a gang ridden state riddled with illegals. It's either one or the other. I remember when Laguna was low key and loaded with interesting people and art galleries. No more. Just phoney wanna be's. So disappointing. I'm running out of quality places to take my child and ourselves. Just doesn't seem worth the drive anymore.
I was at the Santa Clarita town center (don't remember the name, but it had town center in it I think), and there were little five year olds dragging Louis Vuitton purses on the ground. Spoiled kids.

About my aunt and uncle who moved up there, they like it so far. They live in a really big house (don't know how much it cost, but probably around $600,000). It is a one-story. My uncle got a job in the Valley and my aunt isn't working right now, though she might. They say they love it out there, and also say the news isn't much different than it was in Texas (shootings, murders, etc.). They do say that the traffic is horrible, especially going out to the beach, but that is a given and won't happen to them all the time.
