Hi, I am Rosie and I am 18 years old from Runcorn in England. I am coming to the end of college now and I am getting a BTEC First Diploma in Business and I starting to really think about my future. I have awalys dreamed of living in Los Angeles, but lately I have been stating to think that maybe it can become a reality. I have visited many times and I just can't get enough of it.

I just am looking for some advice to see if i am living in a bubble and my dream can never come true, or has it happened to any of you and you have been able to make it happen.

Please give me any advice I would be so grateful

Lots of Love

Rosie xxxx

I dont think moving is too much of an issue, I think getting a visa to stay there would be your main problem

Hi Rosie.....lots of young people feel the way you do and move here by droves every year.....many go home after a few months...many stay the rest of there lives. LA is very expensive and fast paced, but since you've been here, you know that.
Come on out....just have the money to go home when you want to. Look on Craigslist.com for apartments and jobs. LA is expensive, but Burbank is a nice city that has more of a homey feel...you dont need to live where the action is, just be driving distance. Check out the jobs, see if your skills match then see where you can afford to live.....try to keep your housing about 1/3 of your monthly income.....you say you just graduated buss school.....is that administration/secretarial? You'll do fine out here, temp agencys have the best jobs for admin. Good luck.

It is easy to come here on a tourist Visa, but I don't think that allows you to work here. To legally work here, you'll need a different type of Visa. Before you plan on leasing an apartment here, if I was you, I would find out what type of Visa you will need that will allow you to work when you arrive here and then find out what you need to apply and obtain it. You might want to contact an Immigration attorney or do online research. If you have family or friends here, they might be able to help you.

In case you haven't heard, the unemployment rate in LA is approaching ten percent right now. So, if it takes awhile to get the documentation in place, that might work in your favor because LA is expected to be among the first major cities to turn around once the economy improves. Best wishes.

I think you should go to University and get a degree, no one will touch you over there without a decent education. You need, a degree so you can get a job and a visa. Having said that you have to choose the right career, because unless you have skills required most employers will go for a local to avoid the hustle of visa applications etc.You might want to apply to university in the US, although you will have to fund this yourself as your LEA in the UK will not pay for overseas education, this is usually very expensive - about 30K per yr for tuition only for foreigners. If you are lucky you can get scholarships. You can can a degree in the UK, and if you work for a big enough company they can transfer you. I think nurses can also work in the US, that's probably about the easiest way - I guess it's the degree rather than the diploma they would want though. If you were not born in the UK you can try for the GC Lottery.

Oh just one more thing, if you have family i.e. a parent out there it might help with visa issues.

Rosie,
It's impossible to get a visa if you don't have a degree. Do a search because I've done a lot of posts on this. I'm from England, have my visa and move in 2 weeks. It's hard work and costs a lot of money. My best advice to you would be to go to university, save your money, and proceed from there. Good luck.
