We are considering buying a house in Granada Hills (around Balboa and Chatsworth - south of 118). I work in Weswood right off the 405 at Sepulveda and Olympic. I know the commute will be pretty bad - but want to know from those that are doing it exactly how bad. And if any alternate routes than 405. I do an hour commute from Silverlake now but I'm not sure if I could handle more than that. I leave at 9 am.

Thanks to anyone who can help me with drive times.

And please don't suggest we buy a house closer to Westwood ... prices are out of this stratosphere.

Since you leave at 9AM, I would think traffic would cool it a bit.

check Sigalert.com Los Angeles Traffic Map between 9 and 10 AM on a weekday

Thanks Charles. Good suggestion. I will check out Sigalert on Monday. I was actually thinking of driving out there early one morning and leaving for work from there at 9 to see for myself. But the website will be easier.

Well, sigalert works but I think it would be better to actually give it a drive yourself if you're able. The 405 is unforgiving.

45 minutes-1 hour is about right. The alternatives are only surface streets. Sepulveda sometimes works well for me. Evenings are about the same.
