Hello all,

I am going to Temecula (just south of LA) for a vacation trip and was hoping that I can get some advice on a technical issue. I live in Nevada and bought a car with tinted windows (go figure, it is perfectly legal here). I don't know the exact VLT, but they don't really look THAT dark. I heard that in California you can get pulled over if your driver and passenger windows are tinted. The questions that I had were:
*Are the cops really that bad? Should I untint my windows before I go?
*Also, if I get pulled over, is it still a "fix-it" ticket? I heard that some people were getting actual fines and
*What impact would a tint ticket have on my car insurance?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I've had my driver and passenger windows tinted for the past 3 years and never have gotten pulled over (knock on wood). I'm pretty sure they can ticket you or give you a fix it ticket. I'm not sure how it works since you are just on vacation though.

i've received a fix it ticket for tinted windows and it was no big deal. You either haveing the option of removing the tint and paying a small fine or paying a larger fine and risking another ticket. most people never get these tickets though, i only got one because i was pulled over for something else and the cop tacked on the fix it ticket.

Would they even ticket an out of state driver? Seems like a good way to ensure no one visits California for vacation if you're going to start writing tickets for things that are legal in their home state.

My guess is that it would depend on the car and where you were, I have cars with a tint at the back and have never had a problem.

location and a couple of other factors have to do with police interactions.

i know plenty of people that have been cited for tinted windows. thats the quickest excuse for a cop to pull you over. this is in the more rugged parts of town though.

plenty of cars in beverly hills and hollywood roll around with tinted windows. it matters where you are and how dark they are. limo tint is bad, but slight tint is less noticeable.

either way its illegal. but i dont think they would cite you for that. you are coming from out of state, do they think you will strip the tint from your windows once you cross the state line?

dont fret. just make sure to stay out the hood.

I wouldnt worry about it. They don't specifically pull people over for tinted windows. Many vehicles have the darker tints. If you are from out of State, I think they would be more than likely to overlook it.
