hello all,

i am 23 years old, i am now living in new york city, and i am planning to move to southern california once my lease goes up around june or july of next year (2010).

i need some recommendations about where to look for affordable but very safe housing situations. my budget will be tight, i know.

where is best to live in southern cali? safety wise...closest movie biz as possible preferably...

what is the minimum i should pay?

how much money should i come to cali with?

also, i will be appyling to grad schools as well, USC or UCLA possibly, but not until i get there. there's no rush with that.

are there any scholarships i can apply for after establishing residency?

i would appreciate any tips.

Please read the sticky thread at the top of the forum, "FAQ for people thinking of moving to L.A." That should answer at least some of your questions.

On campus in a dorm or off campus student housing is usually the cheapest; if you are on a budget. Contact the campus Administrative Office about living arrangements, residency requirments, jobs, and scholarship money. If you want to study medcine and be a nurse or primary care doctor, you can easily get lots of scholarship money. If not, it will be a little tougher but not impossible; especially if you are a minority. Regading neighborhoods, no neighborhood is safe unless you take precautions: use common sense; especially since you are a young person; try to develop a sense of danger; watch out especially at night; know who your friends are; avoid strangers that you are unsure about; keep your doors and windows locked at night;the usual advice. Regarding money, take as much as you can afford and can get. You will need money for everything before you get a job. Best wishes.
