Hello, I'm finally getting settled out here, and now I am trying to find a place out here in Santa Monica, as I'll be working and going to school. Some great apartments on Ocean Ave, and then I woke up!

I need some help from people who know the best areas surrounding the SMC and the Promenade, as I'd like to be biking distance from both, to find a great apartment community 1 or 2 bedroom, as I may be going in with a co-worker.

What I'm looking for isn't the dream, as I see the dream starts at around $1600 with a view of a wall! But instead, a nice place to come home to after working hard and school. I've heard of Palms and Mar Vista. Can anyone please relate to me their experience from living in these places, good and bad? I would greatly appreciate it!

My key points are listed below...

1. A nice apartment community, with decent view and balcony. Full kitchen, studio ok, but need laundry facilities. Parking optional.

2. IF Adjacent to Santa Monica, less than $1300 for a one-bedroom.

3. IF Santa Monica, could go as high as $1500 for a one bedroom.

4. Great secret studio communities are appreciated!

5. Safe neighborhood (I know this constitutes arguments, so let's just say, favorable for most)

6. Great location to be near the Promenade and the School.

7. If I'm dreaming, just say so, I've lived in expensive places before and am a big boy, I can take it.

I would look in the area in following area:
north of Ocean Park
south of Wilshire
east of Lincoln
west of Bundy/Centinela

there are lots and lots of apartments in this area and all would be an easy bike/bus ride to either SMC or the promenade. i'm not sure about views, but i'm sure there are units out there that aren't facing the next door building. you should have no problem finding a decent 1br for under $1500 somewhere in this area. where it really starts to get expensive is when you get west of lincoln or north of wilshire.

Thanks...I've found some studios in Eastern Santa Monica for that as well though...I guess I just need to come to reality that West LA, is WEST LA! I can't believe after living in Hawaii and Key West I've found this place to be expensive...

But thank you for the ideas...
