PASADENA Remembering Brotherton's & The Akron (Los Angeles, Rosemead: amusement park, house, live in)

Anyone remember eating at Brotherton's Farm House Dinners on east Colorado Blvd? They were there for some 50 years. Last time I was in Pasadena the property was a little strip mall with a Thrifty drug store.

Another place I used to go to a lot was called the Akron, all kinds of weird and modern imports at Rosemead and Colorado Blvd. in the 60's.

Also ate a lot at Dino's, but they closed too.

Don't remember the Brotherton's except the name, but yes, certainly remember Akron. I used to love going there in the 70s as well as 60s and Dino's also.

I was only a little kid when my Mother used to take me to Brotherton's restaurant, you wouldn't believe it but my favorite meal there was fried rabbit! Loved the atmosphere there even though I was a child it felt like home. Wish it was still there.

Another place I remember is Drakes Pot pies. They made fruit pies and savory pies, my favorite was the beef pot pie, they only used meat and gravy in the pies no veggies and also the rubbarb pie. They were so good.

Is the Guinns restaurant still there? Another place where Duncan Hines recommended. I haven't been back to Pasadena is 35 years. Someday will go back, I now live in Las Vegas, Nevada but remember those good old days!

I have two painted eggs from the Akron, 1975. They are brilliant works of art; they have really fine detail. I found them in a hughe carboard bin, amoungst a 1000 painted eggs. I imagined, somewhere in China, a really talented painter... sitting in a long alley, painting day after day for pennies. Would he or she ever be known for their talent, sitting amoung several hundred?

I'm currently writing a book about growing up in Los Angeles from 1952-1971. The Akron used to be situated on Crenshaw Blvd near Rodeo Rd in the Crenshaw district - where I lived until I was 12. The Akron was the precursor to World Market and Pier One. My mother worked there and brought home lots of cool stuff from all around the world. That corner is always in a state of flux - at least the portion of it that housed The Akron and a small amusement park. It was lots of fun while it lasted!

I remember the fried rabbit and chicken pot pies and the motherly waitresses at Brotherton's.
Also the magnolia tree in the parking lot. I just found an old sleeping bag from Akron I had
thought was gone! It sheds feathers! Many happy memories, and Brotherton's took checks!

I remember Dino's on Colorado (classic Italian food, but so good). Can't believe that it's closed now.

I found an Akron ad from the 1969 Times. They had 11 stores around Los Angeles. The one I went to was at Colorado and Rosemead.
