Studio City is nice. I liked it there. It's basically a safe place with nice homes. Not cheap! The commute to downtown would not be bad at all for those hours you are talking about. The distance in time would probably be 20-25 minutes.

Studio City is my favorite part of the valley. Rents run about the same as Burbank. Lots of life: shops and restaurants along Ventura Blvd. Good news about your commute, you can ride the Metro Red Line from Universal City (directly next to Studio City) to Downtown if you wish. I live very close in the Hollywood Hills and ride that train route all the time.

Default huge relief!

so glad to hear that studio city will be okay, especially the commute. SO glad (and surprised) to hear that i might be able to take public transport.! i take it i can just drive to the red line stop and leave a car there while i'm at work? also, any idea how close this red line is to 1400 s. grand ave. in downtown?

i really didn't know what to expect, and it turns out i will most likely be placed there in an apartment (catalina apts--anyone familiar?), so any good news, is welcome.

i get the feeling it's a fair bit more suburban than i wanted (i was requesting silverlake or los feliz, but those didn't pan out), but it sounds like it might be okay.

anything going on as far as restaurants/nightlife? or is really mostly residential...

i'll begin my google search now...but any other input is appreciated.

The Red line stops really close to your new job. If you don't mind some grit and want more urban, you might like Hollywood. Energy pumps day and night with bars, clubs, restaurants, shops and the accompanying urban grit. I love it.
