Hi,
I usually read the forums, don't post much. I live in the westside and yesterday was doing my usual commute and saw a CHP patrol car parked at an angle from a 4 way stop sign. You couldn't see him from one side, unless you go past the stop sign, but due to the incline, he could see you. At first I thought since it was CHP, maybe he is just parked there. But then when someone rolled the sign, he had his lights on and pulled the car over.

I was surprised as our area is patrolled by both regular LAPD and I have seen Sheriffs cars too. Did not realize CHP patrols city streets looking for stop sign violators?? It just got me thinking-does CHP patrol city streets? It is about half a mile from the 405 on the west-but still?

Mobile tax collectors are just doing their part to keep the state unions fed. Expect to see more of this as they get more desperate for your money.

Wouldn't Lincoln Sepulveda PCH for example be a state highway and thus under the (partial?) jurisdiction of CHP?

Anywhere under PCH could possibly be under CHP. But mine is closer to Santa Monica east closer to the 405, nearer to Santa Monica blvd and Wilshire. It wasn't in any of the main roads-just inner side streets. I see the parking enforcement all the time, on rare occassion LAPD and very rarely Sherriffs. But this was the first time I saw CHP-I thought he was just parked there or maybe on personal business or something. Was really surprised when he actually turned his lights on and pulled over a car.

That is why I posted, as until a few days ago, I always thought CHP only enforced on the freeways? Did something change?

Technically, anywhere in the state is jurisdiction for CHP. California Highway Patrol doesn't only mean that they are the only ones to patrol the highway, but they are also state police and have law enforcement jurisdiction anywhere in the state of California.

CHP can enforce anywhere. Usually its just on state roads like PCH, but it can be anywhere.

CHP should hang out at some of the intersections in Lakewood. The state budget would benefit greatly given how few actually take the time to come to a full stop. I suppose that is true for most of California.
