I live in northern California while my Medicare eligible parents live in LA.

While looking at medicare.gov, why is it possible for Medicare insurers in Socal to offer plans that have no copays (eg. Central Health) while nothing like that exists in Northern California?

I was going to suggest Kaiser Senior Advantage but they laughed at my suggestion and told me about Central Health's Medicare program.

I figure the Central Health doctor will have one hand on the door knob ready to leave within 2 minutes but it's not that much better up north with Kaiser, and you have to pay $30 copay too.

So what's the catch with these zero copay Medicare plan? How do they make money? Why isn't this done in northern California?

Probably because it's different to generalize between the areas since there are large social and economic differences between the different areas of the state. What's good for the gander isn't always good for the goose, especially when you have 10 million more people than the next highest population state
