Should I move in to Pasadena? (Arcadia, South Pasadena: real estate, rent, crime)

I am a Long Islander (NY) who works in NYC. I just got a good offer from a big engeering consulting company in Pasadena.

I am looking for advice from current and previous people in Pasadena. I am interested in knowing how the Real Estate, Schools, and Climate are.

Any advice?

if you will be able to afford san marino or la canada (91011), then live there. they have the best schools in LA county. real estate is at an all time high. the weather is nice... not as cool as the beach but not as hot as the san fernando valley. any weather in LA is perfect compared to NYC.

Climate is very nice, real estate is high, crime - something to consider, look at other cities to live in, ..try realtor.com, pasadena has nice historical buildings/culture, check pasadena chamber of commerce. Schools? unsure of public other than overcrowded. Nice private schools but pricey.
There are sosme nice and not so nice areas in all cities, just have to do some timely research and have an open mind in searching. Good luck

Pasadena is VERY nice, alot of great older homes with tons of charm. The only bad part of the town is an isolated area of the north west part of Pasadena. Everything else is great! There's a ton of places to eat, shop, great bars and unique places to eat. Realestate prices are really high, typical rent for a 2bed 2 bath in the downtown area will cost you about 1650/month but as much as 2100/month right on colorado blvd.

Public schools in Pasadena are very poor, look at scores. Most Pasadena Professionals send their children to private schools. If you have school age children, other nearby communities would be a better option (South Pasadena [separate city]; Arcadia; La Canada). Homes are beautiful, but the real estate is not worth the investment if you have children in school. That's why I left.

I think you meant to say: "the real estate is not worth the investment if you don't have children in school."

I loved living in Pasadena and may live there again. I lived in Old Pas and my quality of life was through the roof. Life, culture and jaw-dropping architecture...summer days are high 80's but nights cool down. Winter is glorious without the grey the beach cities get. Smog is significant. For schools...look into this. South Pas schools are better, the city itself is antiseptically clean. Pasadena was my favorite place I've ever lived and I've lived a lot of places. Old Pas is the closest thing to the East Village you'll find in L.A. and has the most authentic Italian food (Il Fornio) according to my adopted Brooklyn Italian family.

Isn't Pasadena where all the smog hangs out most of the year where you can look up and not see the sky for the brown cloud. Oops, that's describing most of LA isn't it.
