Does Los Angeles feel like an American city?
Is there too much immigration?

What does an American city feel like? Miami, NYC, LA, SF, Boston, DC, etc... all feel very different from each other. I think that's one thing that makes the US great.

To me, it feels both like an American city and an international one. That's not a bad thing.

I don't think the level of legal immigration is too high (that is part of what makes it an international city).

I don't think there should be any illegal immigration, because I think it should be much easier to come legally as long as you don't have a criminal background, can hold down a job, obey the law, and don't use any welfare services.

This should end all discussion.

Los Angeles feels like Los Angeles.

What is your definition of American? I think every city has it's own feel like LASam said. The United States isn't a one-dimensional place.

What other country would it feel like? The only other I can think of is Mexico. I haven't been most of Mexico but LA doesn't remind me of Mexico 364 days a year. May Day is the only day it does with the thousands of Mexican flags sprinked with 6 American flags. I thought I crossed the border when I drove under Alameda on the 101.

The US is a MELTING POT of different international cultures. Hence, LA feels like a melting pot. How much more American can you get than that?

How is an American city supposed to feel like? Yes there is too much immigration because almost all of the people in this country are the result of mass immigration whether they want to admit or not.

Someone probably asked the same question about New York in 1920.

If you're worried about too many immigrants you definitely need to avoid most major metropolises in the US today. The reality is that the strength of the American economy relies on the ingenuity & sweat of new immigrants who're willing to work for peanuts to attain a better life for their children. It was that way back in the 1800's and it's the same in the 21st century.

Well, Los Angeles IS an American city and it does feel like a modern American city which has a lot of diversity.

Los Angeles is not like the American cities in New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Conneticut where you would go canoeing and collect maple syrup at grandma 's house.
