I never realized how special this was till I left L.A.: the downtown wholesale shopping districts (floral, fabric, clothing, toys). I so miss all the fabric dealers. Wonderful stuff--and cheap. (I'm sure everyone's thinking 'what--people still sew?'). Nashville has exactly ONE real (apparel) fabric store and everything is priced above retail (sigh).

Regarding food choices in Los Angeles we have some of the best Mexican food first of all. I may be kind of biased since I love to eat Mexican food, no not Taco Bell but REAL Mexican food. Mexican food is usually full of flavor, spices and sophistication although much of it is not good for our health. I also think we have really good Japanese restaurants. Indian food here is also quite good. Oh and before I forget, Lebanese food especially in this city is something I will never forget. I have had it on several occasions and am more than willing to go back and try some again. So, in a nutshell LA has several different good types of food that a food lover like myself can enjoy anytime.

I love when it rains for the first time after a long, hot, dry summer.
It's an awesome feeling.

Well, go hiking in the mountains and work it off hehe

But I will agree the Mexican food here is some of the best in the world.

Agreed! Last weekend my wife and I checked out Manhattan Beach after hearing how nice it is (It really is nice!). As we were parking, a man returned to his car which was parked right in front of ours. Before he left, he comes up to our car and tells us that he still has 45 minutes on the meter if we want to take his spot.We thank him and take his spot.

Before we leave, a woman jogging by stops to tell us that we should turn our wheels towards the curb, otherwise we will get at $50 ticket (MB has lots of hills). We thank her, go on her way, all the while I keep thinking "That would never have happened back in DC!

Default sunrises at the beach

One thing about L.A. I adore:

The incredible golden beach sunrises casting majestic glowing sheens through the grey fog, with the seagulls flying around, the chill sea air bracing you. You sense there is magic here, at this moment, and for a time, Providence smiles. IT IS A KIND OF SORCERY.
