I would like to bring my family south to experience the plantations history and way of life. We are not hotel people and like to have some amount of privacy when we travel. Can someone recommend cottages/cabins in an area that are close to some of the plantations? I would like my 17 year old daughter to see some true history (We are from Wisconsin, not too much here), throw me some ideas!

You can stay in Nottoway Plantation, it's the largest, Madewood Plantation is supposed to be the best. Visit Laura Plantation and Oak Alley as well.
