If we manage to legalize marijuana before Texas we'll be fine.

Well, the low price of oil means Sasol is not doing the $14 billion GTL plant as planned. Big hit to LC:

#1 Sasol is still busy with the earth work on this project, daily. I have seen logging trucks, bulldozers and dump trucks moving down Cities Service Hwy for the past month.

#2 We still have plenty of ongoing projects to keep Lake Charles working. The area wants talented, optomistic, talent to come fill the jobs that will be needed to get the projects started.

Sasol will host a session from 4-7 p.m. Feb. 19 at Lake Charles Civic Center for the company to meet with the Southwest Louisiana business community and share information about available work opportunities. Hiring and subcontract opportunities will be available directly with construction contractors.

The ethane cracker project is different than the GTL project. Yes they are still doing the ethane cracker project, which will be a big boom.

That's the nature of the O&G industry. It has always swung back and forth, and you gotta expect that stuff like this is an eventuality. The economy is still surging around here though, and I hope Sasol follows through with their original plans... a lot of people have moved out here looking for those jobs.

I agree, which is why I personally believe that the Golden Nugget should be the final casino that is built in this area (at least for a while anyway). LC needs to focus in other areas to draw tourists so that Casinos are not the only thing that ppl want to do when they come down here. For one, how about improving the mardi gras celebrations down here. Idk who is over these now b/c they are pretty ****ty now. They used to be so much fun.

They are actually talking about moving a casino from another part of the state so that LC would have four. It had four a while back but they were really small. Most likely the fourth casino would be built downtown near where the old Harrah's Casino was destroyed.

The problem with casino is they take business from other areas such as local restaurants and other entertainment. Often they stay while the jobs are there if temporary and leave once stopped. Look at Atlantis city as to what they do to other businesses and what happens if they eventually leave. I'd say Lake Charles will have a difficult time long term supporting more casinos.O& G is likely to way outlast drawing people from other areas to gamble as far as long term. No area has become the next Vegas really.

That is true about casinos taking money from other areas, but in this case, it is taking money from Texas and placing it into Louisiana. LC doesn't have the population to support 3 casinos, but Houston does and so that is where the crowds are drawn from.

They thought that when the Golden Nugget came in that it would simply cannibalize the tourism of L'auberge but they are finding the market expanding instead. The consumers like high quality and the market basically doubled by the opening of GN. So, there is reason to believe that another casino, if done right like GN or LDL, would succeed as well. But a license would have to be transferred. Most likely it would be transferred from Baton Rouge or New Orleans.
