Never been there. Looking for places with a Cajun twist. My wife and I. Passing through via car for a couple of days on our way from NOLA back home to New Mexico.
Ideas?

To eat, or visit or stay the night?

(I assume you mean stay?)

You don't have to look for Cajun places in Lafayette-- the whole city is like the nest of Cajuns.

Prejeans (pronounced pray-shawns) restaurant is a must-do. It's a little north of Lafayette, off I-49. If you go at peak times, be prepared to wait. I believe on Friday and Saturday nights they have a small Cajun band playing. They have a website with a live cam, so you can check it out before you go.

Billy's Boudin and Cracklings in Scott, La is amazing. I don't like crackings (google it) but boudin is feeaking delicious. https://plus.google.com/app/basic/lo...known&socpid=1

Let me think about some more things.

For a hotel, the Juliet Hotel (boutique) is nice and centrally located (near university of Louisiana campus). UL is more of a party school than LSU so it could get noisy depending on if the university kids are in school-- which they probably won't be)...

I'm sure you could probably find a good B&B in the area.

If you don't mind, I'm going to keep posting as I think of things:

Henderson exit on I-10 has Crawfish Town, USA (get the crawfish étouffée!!!!) is sooo good. If crawfish is in season (it's possible though not probable) then get boiled crawfish. Pat's Fisherman's Wharf restaurant is also very good (same exit). http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restauran...Louisiana.html

Also in Henderson, there is the Atchafalaya swamp and you could probably do a swamp tour if you were so inclined: Atchafalaya Basin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Acadian Village is a very charming historical site, which I assume will be decorated for Christmas and perhaps will have a visit from Papa Noel?

Yes..Acadian Village was closed during Thanksgiving week when I was there but re-opened the first weekend of December with holiday lights - when I left. The swamp tour is a must, but wear warm clothing and a warm hat because it can get windy and chilly on an airboat over the swamp. Also try to go on Facebook and look in the local papers for any Cajun music and dance festivals in and around Lafayette, Henderson, and Baton Rouge.

We keep a Prejeans menu in the car and if we ever go near the area we call 15 mins out and order, pick up and keep going. Lol.
