I am going to be visiting family in Lake Charles in the next couple of weeks with my wife and two year old son. Does anyone have any suggestions of things to do during our stay there? Many thanks.

Hi-
I am driving from Crockett, TX to Lake Charles (never been to LC) with a friend May 10 to see some other friends of mine, one who lives in Alexandria & one who is from Katy & is a student at SFASU in Nacogdoches, TX.

From what I've gathered about Lake Charles (pop. 70,000) on the Lake Charles city-data forum:
There is a mall, good restaurants and the State's Largest Casino L'Auberge du Lac (The Barge of the Lake), the Charpentier Historic District & not much else...

Hope this helps!!

Talk to you soon,
fallguy

There is a children's museum on Broad Street downtown, bowling, putt putt, movies. There are lots and lots of restaurants and good Cajun food. Steamboat Bills is awesome! Contraband Days start on April 29. You can google it to check it out. You can drive down to the Gulf and look around. The Sabine National Wildlife refuge is a good place to go and see alligators. You can go crabbing, etc. There's also the Imperial Calcaseiu Museum on West Sallier Street. Not much to do with a toddler besides taking them to the children's museum or letting them play on the beach or putting them in the stroller and go for a walk around the civic center or on a nature trail. We don't have that much to do here.
