My fiance and I are first-time home buyers. We are planning on buying a home in St. Charles Parish, probably Destrehan. I am trying to get quotes for homeowners and flood insurance. I looked on the Insurance Commissioners website and got some info from there but then some people said they aren't writing new policies. So, does anyone know who is writing policies in St. Charles Parish?
Thanks!

If you are purchasing an existing home, ask if you can transfer the insurance into your name when you close.

We were able to grandfather in our flood and homeowners and it saved us a lot of money.

If that doesn't work for you, you will need to find your own homeowner's insurance before you go to closing; otherwise your mortgagor will not let you proceed. Flood insurance is available thru the govt, and you can apply for this at closing, or even afterwards.

Talk to your soon to be mortgage company, since they are doing closings everyday they know who everyone else is using in your area. That is how I found an agent.
