Hello,

We lived in Louisville for 8 months and fell in love with it. We were then transferred to Hawaii for my husbands job, that was last April. It took us 3 months to get our cat here, now we have to go back in January.

So my first question is what is the weather like in January, the first week. Delta said something about not accepting pets if the ground temp is below 45 for that day? Not sure have to research that more. But my other question we had about 17 things to do before Hawaii would let her off the plane, is there anything I should be prepared for when coming back? I am thinking she should be okay with just the vet check the week before she flies and maybe the acclimation certificate that she can withstand cooler temps.

So much to think about....any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Deanna

Our weather is crazy here and we never know to be honest~! We've had warm January's and then there are years it was awful. One year I was literally snowed in without electric for a week plus. I'd stay in Hawaii if I were you...or rather I'd love to be there since I hate winter weather~!

Veggienut is right- there is no telling what the weather might be. Tornado, ice storm, wind storm, drought- we have it all! Last winter was so mild that my gas/electric bills were $50-70 cheaper each month than previous winter months.

This is the quarantine page from the Kentucky State Veterinarian: Office of the Kentucky State Veterinarian

The normal daily highs for Kentucky in January are below 45. That's the high's, and the low's will be in the low to mid 20's.

I just don't think your odds of a 45 plus day are very good. Sorry for that bad news. Got to plan with assumption it will not be favorable for delivery of your cat.

Apparently, you haven't been here in Louisville very long or something for you not to know about it. It was a similar forum to this, but they had activities such as weekend camping trips to parties at a country club on the River....besides so much more~!

I've lived here all my life :-D But have not been a member of any kind of local forums...I actually only joined City-Data so I could post requests for info on the Denver forum (as I'll be moving there next year).

January and February are usually the two coldest months of the year in Kentucky.
(Most of us will probably wish we were in Hawaii, right about that time, lol.)
