Your recent rain over there reminded me I wanted to ask you all this question....

For those of you who have been over there for more than 10 years how was the Flood of 1997 in relation to Oldham County? Was Oldham County part of the 101 counties that were declared federal disaster areas? Just curious to hear how it effected Oldham, and Jefferson county going into Louisville and for how long afterward if it did? Thanks.

My memory is that it hit the south end of Jefferson County the worst.

Oldham County has very little Ohio River flood plain area. I don't remember if there was a declaration, but based on my observations and awareness of the county, I would say not. The only homes in Oldham County that are potentially flood prone are river camps etc. A few homes have been built along the river recently, but the living areas by law must be above the 100 year flood zone.

If I remember right it was because those areas are built over wetlands that they flood so easily but that MSD have since fixed the problem.
