Sure is. Meetups all the time. No cliques there. People from all over. And there are meetups for every interest on meetup.com, churches, volunteer, coffee shops, bars.

Anyone that blame a top 50 metro area, with nearly 1.5 million people, for their lack of friends....I just will NEVER buy it! It is you.....

You've got it so wrong, but you're too blind to see it.

What everyone is talking about is finding friends "organically", that is to say without having to specifically seek it out by hunting out meetup groups. When others can organically find friends elsewhere outside of Louisville, it's not "them".

Of course you can find people that way - those sites are designed to put people together. It's like a dating website without the sex. (usually) Those sites would even work in BFE.

That's not the case with everyone. Not everyone wants to be in a clique. Some people like myself see it as a violation of principles to be in a clique. I'm a free spirit and an individualist so cliques aren't my thing. Louisville is very cliquish. There are users on other forums on this site that even describe Louisville as such. Sure there are many cliquish cities, we aren't the only one. For people who want to be in a clique that's fine, it's their cup of tea. For people like me though, you have to hunt for individuals. Not saying it can't be done, it's a little hard but it can be done. Sure with some people it is them, they are either not trying or they don't have the best personality in the world. This is not the case with everyone though. I've known many people who have tried to fit in here and they have exhausted themselves by trying to do so. I've been in that boat myself.

Exactly. As I was saying, this isn't the case 100% of the time. Sometimes it is the person if they don't have a great personality or don't try hard enough. I tried hard making friends here to the point of having a breakdown. The cliques here are as hard as concrete, they aren't looking for new members. The individualists are out there but are hard to find. Pretty much most of my friends are individualists and I'm happier with friends like that. Sure I rarely see them since half of them either live out of town and the other half works on a different schedule such as myself but it's more of a breath of fresh air to be friends with non cliquish people.
