We are going to be relocating in a few months to louisville area. We are a family of 4 with one school-aged child. Ideally, we would like to rent for some time to check out the different suburbs and then purchase. I have been researching possible rental options, but they appear to be limited. We would also like a furnished one since we are keeping our home in Florida. We will literally be rolling into town with just the clothes on our backs. Any ideas on possible rentals...............or does everyone relocating just jump right in and purchase homes? Thanks!

The first time I relocated to Louisville ('91) , I lived at an apartment complex called Copper Creek (Shelbyville Road and Whipps Mill Road across from the mall) until I had my house built. I just looked it up and will try to post a link. I've never posted a link in this forum, so I hope it works. It looks like it's now called Camden Brookside.

Don't have any rental leads for you, don't live in KY, but FWIW, I certainly plan on renting first in my new location when I retire, to get a good idea of the different areas (city & country): stores/banks/theater locations, traffic patterns, location of the main arteries, mall locations, broadband availability, good cell phone coverage, etc., etc. I've read on different boards that many will visit an area multiple times and then put an offer on a home; while others move to the new location and rent for a while (even the folks w/kids!), explore the area, and then choose a home. So, folks seem to do both.

Good luck with your move!

You are only interested in suburbs? Louisville has some great urban areas that aren't too much like a real big city. I recommend at least going in with an open mind and looking at them, it is pretty laid back here. Do you like new or old apartments? What kind of amenities? I tend to like rehabbed apartments in historic buildings, yet I realize many prefer the new vinyl sided communities with the huge parking lots and pool in the middle.
