Well, it's good to know.

For funds, this move is no problem at all. I just hope that it wouldn't detract from simply getting the belt around Lubbock. Since the area won't adopt a toll road authority, TXDOT should now be able to speed the project up.

Here's an update for you: A significant amount of land is being cleared between Avenue P and U.S. Highway 87 on FM 1585 to give right-of-way to Loop 88. Land between Slide Road and University had previously been set aside, so this segment can effectively commence with new construction of the feeders, and then the mainlanes with grade separations.

What I'll be showing you in this post is something that TXDOT is experimenting with. It's a can that's being kicked around, though the new construction being done now in South Lubbock won't reach the area in question for a few more years. I don't believe there's any other place in Texas that's doing it, but in Lubbock at the future State Loop 88 interchange with an improved U.S. Highway 82/62 in the Wolfforth area, they're planning what I'd call a roundabout interchange. It would be the first of its kind anywhere that I can think of, but TXDOT is looking at Loop 88 to try something like this. Three levels in all, including the feeder road run-throughs.

Here is a vid below to show you what that will look like and how funneling traffic through it will function.

That's planned for Loop 88 at U.S. 82/62 (Marsha Sharp Fwy) southwest of Lubbock.

Default New Updates

Feeder roads and grade separations are starting to take shape between U.S. 87 and Indiana. Lubbock's TXDOT district shared a few things in the below link.

Hopefully the headaches are kept to a minimum, as opposed to what (allegedly) happened with 19th Street downtown (think it was previously unknown ancient pipes that caused problems there). Also, they had the concrete mix issue.

I didn’t know where to put this, and didn’t want to start a new topic for it, but the city is finally paving 98th Street from Upland Ave. to Alcove Ave, next to Wolfforth:

This is some of the latest news out of Lubbock for Loop 88.

Feeder roads are going to be taking shape, and they're being built first to move traffic.

That's good, but that's not Loop 88, unfortunately. Probably would have been better in the new Lubbock economic growth thread.
