Zebulon RD has become a major artery now, its not a country rd anymore;plus it's near a major high volume traffic highway(475). More developments are going to come. These ppl need to embrace change because they are fighting a losing battle. This area including north Macon-bibb has become a hot spot for development. ... Especially once consolidation goes into effect 2014. Instead of always fighting growth it needs to be embraced; work with the developers to design it more community friendly, something that would compliment the surrounding neighborhoods.

I don't think its that simple. From what I understand, there is still plenty of undeveloped commercially zoned land closer to 475 around Kohls. It is dangerous to change zoning for this land with so much undeveloped land nearby. The master land use plan was designed to guide area growth. If you buy a home near land that is commercially zoned...that is on you, but buying property next to an area zoned for residential, and then its changed, that isnt so easy. If all of the commercial land was already being used and there was more demand....then I could see this, but as it stands it appears that this may be a group buying cheaper residential land vs the commercial property and then trying to use the cruddy economy and desperate desire for growth to circumvent plans.

I am not well versed enough on that area to say if this is a good or bad deal for Bibb, but it does require close examination.

Well said. There needs to be smart growth and a strip mall in a previously zoned for residential area is the exact opposite of smart.
You want to see new blight in the future? Go forward with these plans.

Looks like the planning board approved the rezoning. The developer is even talking about adding a residential component and making it more mixed use.

Of course they approved it. They see dollars right now...damn the half empty land and structures that will exist in 10 years. Stupid is as stupid does.
