I'm going to be driving down south and I'm looking to get a hotel in the Macon or Valdosta area. Just kind of wondering about the general areas of hotels and if there are any parts I should worry about in reguards to my car being broken into or anything for that matter. What is generally better, Macon or Valdosta?
Location: Metro Atlanta (Sandy Springs), by way of Macon, GA

Any hotel on the northside of Macon would be a good spot, which is where most of the hotels are anyway. Crime is low there, and they are right off I-75, not 475. Anything off or near Riverside is just fine.

Hmmm, interesting. If someone was passing through, you would have them go I-75 instead of I-475? Ya see, I was thinking off of Zebulon (1st choice) then Eisenhower (2nd choice). Simply to avoid looking at the Pio Nono and I-75 side of Eisenhower areas. No need to scare folks away. Besides, he lives in Florida and is obviously just passing through. I, for one, am not going to suggest going through downtown if at all possible. My way is shorter, burgler09, and a more pleasant drive.
Having made that drive many times and having stayed in both places..I would recommend Valdosta..
the hotels are right off the interstate..easy access. You don't need to take any detours to get to them..and Valdosta just seems to be a bit safer.
Just stayed at the Best Western in Macon(475) last night. Very friendly, good beds, free continental breakfast (including homemade waffles), and said there was 24 hr surveillance. It seemed packed, but was very quiet. Good price, too.
I ended up staying in the Holiday in express on eisenhauer off of 475. The area seemed a bit dead but the area seemed safe and my hotel was nice. Thanks for all the help, going from 475 saved a lot of time.
