Biking around Downtown Macon just got a lot easier. Bike Walk Macon is donating 12 bike racks to businesses, thanks to a downtown challenge grant. It helps fix a problem many people had trying to find a place to park their bike.
The $5,000 grant will provide businesses like, Just Tap’d, H&H and the Government Center with racks. Bike Walk Macon’s Executive Director, Rachel Hollar, hopes these new racks will motivate more people to get on their bikes and feel safe.
“If you’re out running an errand or just getting a bite to eat to know that you can comfortably lock your bike in front of the place you’re going,” said Hollar.”And know that it’s going to be secure and it’s going to be there when you get back.”
A couple of the racks are artistic, representing Macon. One of them is twelve feet long, and spells out Macon, which will be located in front of Just Tap’d. The other is shaped like a saxophone you can find outside The Creek. The Macon-Bibb commission has to approve the donation in a commission meeting, before the racks are put out.
