I agree the Transit Authority needs to be a part of the city/county department. This is one sole reason that the city is held back, because of cutaway buses instead of full size buses. It's talk about trying to make the city an attractive tourist destination. Cutaway buses are not appealing. They are not a site to see. This does something bad to the image that this central Georgia city wants to portray. I've heard that the Macon Transit Authority does get some funding from the city but after receiving the money the city/county can't tell the Transit Authority exactly how to use it. That's bogus in my opinion, so this potential takeover would be nice. It would allow more funding and possibly a board that is looking to improve the Transit or list of projects to go by.
Transit Authority committee
The County Commission agreed Tuesday to set up a committee that will weigh the pros and cons of having the Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority become a Macon-Bibb department.
The suggestion for the committee came from Mayor Robert Reichert, as commissioners were scheduled to discuss a potential takeover of the transit system during their meeting.
A Transit Authority board now oversees the system, which does receive some funding from the county.
“You’ve got an increasing demand for transit services in the community,” Reichert said. “We are currently not supporting the transit authority to the extent they can meet the demand.”

Great new!!! IMO this should have been done at the Time of Consolidation...Cutaway buses have always been a big Mistake for the city, smh... Their Transit Director leaving may be the best decision ever besides the one they had before him. Hope this move Takes place quick if it happens.
We the taxpayers need this move. Strictly, because what exactly is this private ownership of our Transit Authority actually doing? All the other large metros in Georgia have their public transit runned by the public and not private owned like ours.
