Does anyone know anything about any of the apartments in the Hiestand neighborhood area, particularly multi family units? Any good places? Or places to avoid like the plague?

That's a quite decent area in general, lots of small-to-medium middle-class homes and good proximity to businesses. Handy to Stoughton Road and Hwy 30, too, which can be convenient if you travel a lot or have a long commute. I live a couple of miles away from that neighborhood, and we considered a couple of homes in that area when we first moved here.

While I lack direct experience with the large rental complexes there, I suspect that the folks at Tenant Resource Center could answer specific questions about the property managers and likely the buildings, too. Although the TRC does tenant/landlord mediation as its primary function, in the process of that, they do figure out pretty quickly which landlords play fair and which are the scumbags. They also frequently hear about problems at complexes before anyone else does. Best to call them rather than emailing, as they are a completely volunteer-run organization, and not always very prompt about replying to emails.

Good luck to you!
