Hi there! I'm flying up for a visit this weekend. Was accepted to Edgewood college and am almost 95% positive that we are going to make the move.

Besides me seeing my school and some neighborhoods I'm looking at, what else should I do/see while I'm in town that encompasses what Madison is like... In 3 days time! Lol!

Thanks so much!

What kind of food do you like?
Are you a shopper?
Any special hobbies? I could tell you some great knitting stores.....
If it is warm enough, rent a bike from Machinery Row Bicycle and ride around Lake Monona.

the farmers market is nice (i'm assuming it's running now), as it encompasses the entire block the Capital building is on. The Capital is normally open to tour, and allows one to branch off and take a walk down State Street or perhaps MLK Blvd to go on the Monona Terrace to view Lake Monona.
A walk thru the Vilas Zoo can be a nice way to spend an hour or two; and grab a burger and frozen custard at Culvers.

Both the downtown and zoo areas are close enough to Edgewood; though you'll find Madison itself is not that large to cross anyway.

And if any of your children are making the trip, and depending on their ages, you could venture an hour away to see some of the sights you could take in living there--such as Devil's Lake State Park in Baraboo, perhaps a day trip to the Dells, etc (all within an hour of Madison)

If your kids are under 7/8 years you could go to the Children's Museum.

Ella's Deli on East Wash is a blast with kids - especially if they have the full sized, carnival-style, merry-go-round running. There is enough in the restaurant to keep them entertained though, so it is worth the trip. Food is pretty good, too!

The weather is supposed to be warm this weekend but likely rainy. If the rain subsides long enough, I'd suggest checking out the UW Union terrace. Parking can be a real bear around there though -- maybe get acquainted with public transportation...

State Street is always an interesting place to browse on a nice afternoon. Make sure you're out of there by 7 or 8pm though because that's when the booze hounds come out and turn it into Bourbon Street.
