Hi, I am a public school teacher in New Mexico with ten years of experience and I am planning to move within a year to Madison. What is the job outlook for the elementary school teachers? Thank you.

Not good. It is highly competitive to get a job here in any of the local school districts. It would help if you were bilingual.

Most teachers new to the district, even those with experience, wind up working as substitutes for a year or more before they get offered a permanent position. As Megan correctly notes, having an ESL certification (especially if you are fluent in Hmong) improves your chances significantly. Without that, you're probably looking at a couple of years of subbing before you get a permanent position.

OP, seems there have been others making similar inquiries on this topic, there may be different 'angles' that could help if you can find them in the search function.
My daughter had several friends there who went thru the UW for education and for the most part are working in other areas as there were just too many apps for every opening. Experience could make a difference but as noted it is tough to crack thru. Perhaps an area district is expanding which may open up some new positions, if nearby communities could be a consideration.
