Hey..I with my family relocated to Madison recently,we rented out an Individual House. We love the place and everything is good.
I understood that Snow cleaning is a must do in Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb but am scared of cleaning 11 inches snow...Please give me some tips on snow cleaning?
And could any one tell me how much will it cost if I call a snow cleaning service occasionally, I understand that it depends on the area but could you give me an idea? We have a long side walk that spans about 40-45 feet and a 20 feet drive way...

As I learned when I lived there for 10 years, you really can't use a snow removal service just for occasional cleaning. During 11" snowfalls, they'll be far too busy servicing their regular customers to help you in a timely fashion. If you're planning to stay for a few years, buy a snowblower. Even if you're not planning to stay, you can always sell your snowblower used when you move.

Also, you really can't afford to ignore snow removal. The city will definitely ticket you if you have sidewalks and the snow/ice is not cleared from them in a timely fashion.

When I moved away, I had no trouble selling mine in June.

Hey Bowie..thanks for your advice and thats true the removal service goes to their regular customers first. I bought a snow blower and a shovel and could you give any input regarding the Melting Salt like which one will be the best?

one tip on salt--it doesnt work once temps hit the teens +/-. And the last couple winters were worse then average up there for snow totals, so icing was a problem ( lots of melt, then freeze/new snow again ). I actually used sand more then salt. Didn't melt anything, but at least there was traction to be had.

Oh, when snowblowing in a strong northerly wind--pay attention to where you're blowing the snow.... nothing like a good blast in your face to learn real quick to blow it in another direction!!

be sure and stock up on the salt. it sells out quickly in the later part of the season and if it is a bad winter, you'll be hard pressed to find it.

the LOL part is when you think you have the wind figured out, and obviously mother nature has other ideas... and changed directions on ya.

i seemed to have lost all pictures with snow in our move south.... though it's deeply ingrained in my memory forever!

i moved south to texas and can't wait to go back to wisconsin. i don't like driving in snow, and i'm a truck driver (i hand the wheel to hubby), but i'd rather drive in snow than on ice. plus, i'll take cold weather over the hundred plus weather i've seen. but that's just me.

after 40+ yrs in WI, we just had to head south. Where the winter extreme kept us indoors ( we did not do or enjoy any outdoor winter activities ) the extreme heat here just means more time out on the lake. Which we can still do in fall and winter, and that doesn't include drilling thru ice to fish!
Wi is a beautiful state, just wasn't our year round climate.
