Looks like asmainegoes.com forum has shut down after 16 years. I've been visitng that forum for many years and didnt even know it was closing. Hopefully people from asmainegoes can join us here at city data, another great place to chat about things going on in Maine.

Submariner...I actually sent you a link to Asmainegoes once upon a time! It was an interesting political forum. But you had to be referred by a member to join.

I hear the domain is for sale...

City Data has a political forum...but it's not the Maine forum - right?

AsMaineGoes was the online hangout for (mostly) politically conservative Mainers. It had some really interesting discussions and others that were ... not so much. But then that's true of most forums IMHO. Media folks loved it because it offered some insight into the thinking and strategies of Maine's Republicans. Senators Collins and Snowe were routinely castigated as RINOs, and there were some real battles between mainline Republicans and the Ron Paul supporters back during the last election.

All in all, a well-run and generally respectful place that will be missed. There was a certain amount of overlap between AMG and this forum in terms of members, BTW.

Oh that one. Yes, I remember. Sorry, I apologize for my Swiss cheese memory. I looked at it, I think at the time it seemed to be a lot of hot debates, that I did not wish to get into. I meant to go back and snoop again later. I never got around to it though.

I think it was about the same time that someone wanted me to get onto FaceBook.

Again, I apologize.

Geesh, apology undeserved! LOL! It's a miracle that I recalled this; my mind is usually sharp as a steel trap - I mean, sieve.

Maine politics? There's always Dirigo Blue...

Did they give a reason it closed down?

And Maureen I have been meaning to tell you that a couple weeks ago we again tried Paddy Murphy's for lunch. It was up to standards IMO and busy too. We got there about 11:30 but those that came a bit later had a bit of a wait for a table. Maybe the day you went it was just a fluke. I was so hoping it wasn't going down hill as sometimes happens. There is a lot of competition with reastaurants now and most need to be on their toes. Last Saturday we tried Giacomos for lunch, on the opposite corner of the intersection. Nice lunch there too. That day was the very last day it was easy to get around, just before the ice mess. People next to us were having pizza that looked great, but we had already ordered wraps.

It closed down because the owner took a job as a state employee and they told him to shut it down or be fired. Such is the state of the First Amendment in Maine. It is for sale, but they want big bucks for it. The archives are valuable to any historian. The writings of Hiram Perry are preserved as are those of Erich Veyhl.

Not surprised he was told to shut it down. Given the state of employment in this country all of your Rights end at your employer's door.
