There is always one to pull that one. No body can touch Maine if you don't live there. Oooohh, the big bad wolf. But they will always tell you how friendly and welcoming they are.

This Bangor Daily News feature provides some interesting (and to me, accurate) observations about how living in Maine feels comfortable:

Missing home, missing Maine — Living — Bangor Daily News — BDN Maine

I am not originally from Maine, and I have found the majority of Mainers to be extremely respectful, friendly and generous in nature.

Never say never.
I don't believe a store manager would act this way in Maine but if it happened, that person wouldn't keep his or her job long.

We're friendly until someone shows up being unfriendly.

How did this story end? Did someone step forward and help this woman?

You cannot lock down a store and keep people inside over a stolen purse. Not to mention searching them, wow, just wow over that one. Not going to try to imagine the outrage and the lawsuit threats over such actions on the part of the store...
And no the police will not take a report from a store employee, the report has to be made by the victim.
Probably true the mgr could have been nicer in the way it was handled, but there are limits as to what they are and aren't allowed to do.

Good question. I was wondering the same thing.

Good to know... Maybe people can be more realistic about their communities.

I worked at the Wal-Mart in Lebanon for a few years as a second job, had this happened at our store we would have called the police right away and gone over security video tapes just as if it were a shoplifter. Although the victim has to file the actual police report they are not required to be the one placing the call.

That manager really should be on third shift running a floor buffer.

Police came, took a report, helped her home. (She was in a motorized wheelchair and people who stepped forward had no way of taking it in their cars so they couldn't help her home themselves)
