Hey Does anyone know of any really cool, creepy, odd & interesting abandoned or even not abandoned places, houses, hospitals ect. in the state of Maine or even in New England ??? I like to photograph such places & am running out of places locally & with the cost of gas can't really afford to just drive around aimlessly anymore to seek them out. Ive been to most of the Creepychusetts type websites & done several hospitals but am still open to/welcome other site or personal first hand info.

Thanks so much otherwise it's gunna be a long boring summer for me !

The old Augusta Mental Health Institute, AKA the Home for the Insane. Not the newer buildings up by the highway, but the old ones down near the river. There's a cemetery there, too, for patients who died there and were never claimed by their families.

I think most if not all of the buildings at Pineland have been rehabbed now, so that's no longer as spooky as it was back in the early 1980s. Parts of old Route 2 through the Haynesville Woods are said to be haunted, and if you're driving it in the fog at dusk it's easy to believe.

There's a stretch of road
Up North, In Maine
That's never ever ever seen a smile.

And if they buried all the truckers
lost in them woods
There's be a tombstone every mile.

Have you been to the asylum in Danvers, MA?

I believe that most of the old Bangor Mental Health Institution is empty. At least it looks empty.

There is a wicked neat large house/ mansion hidden in the woods of Hancock county along rt1 in Sullivan. There is NO road to it as it has been abandon for a very long time but it is well worth the hike to get there.

I think that's where I got a scar on my wrist 30+ years ago. If it's the same mansion, it's a very cool place.

There are 'haunted tours' given of the Biddeford Textile Mill, I believe. There is an abandoned hospital on Rte. 9 going down to the beach, but I wouldn't recommend you just go in there, a family member of mine was arrested with a friend when he went in to have a look.

And actually you want to be careful of trespassing here in Southern Maine -- the police have nothing better to do with their time than kill fleas with a sledgehammer, as it were.

It is now private property and the owners do not want visitors roaming around it. That is why I did not give specific directions. It is a wicked neat thing to see so far out in the woods though.
