Hello everyone. I was wanting some opinions on Lincoln. We moved up here from the south in August and have been renting in Levant since then. We are looking to buy in Lincoln and was wondering what kind of town it is. It looks really nice, love the water even though we couldn't see it because of all the snow. I will appreciate any feedback. Thanks

Find out a lot about Lincoln here:

Welcome to Lincoln, Maine!

Lincoln is the economic center of the region. It has six banks, a credit union, good basic hospital, more churches than you can count, 13 lakes and the great Penobscot River.

Nearby Lee has a ski area and 10 lakes. Both towns have good schools and great snowmobile trails.

You may want to be particular about where in town you buy. "Stinkin' Lincoln" can be rather...fragrant...with an odor that reminds me of saurkraut.

Lincoln has the only McDonalds I've ever seen that is heated with a wood stove.

We are looking to buy alittle outside the business district heading toward the hospital, but still in town. When I was there, I didn't smell it, but i hear it can depend on the weather.

I looked at a property on the corner of Transalpine and Phinney Farm Rd., couldn't even notice it there.

There is a paper mill in town that USED to have an awful odor. The only time it's present now is when the pulp mill has an upset. The problem is much less significant than it used to be. The mill is the only totally chlorine free mill in the northeast. It is also the only fully integrated privately owned pulp and paper mill in the world. They make the best deep dyed tissue in the world.

On the subject of paper mills, is there a list somewhere of the various mills throughout the state. Seems like someone talked once about Bucksport being smelly....I may be naming the wrong town. But, that is definitely info I'd want to know before moving into an area. I'm extremely sensitive to smells, as I'm sure some others are, and I'd hate to get stuck in a town that literally upsets my tummy!
