I noticed an interesting phenomena, while viewing predictions about the storm we just experienced. The Portland news sources showed a map of what the impact of the storm may be. Cut off from the prediction was Bangor on North!! What gives?

They usually include New Hampshire, but not the northern part of their own state. And they wonder why we feel zero connection with southern Maine!

JMHO, we don't live downstate so why would they include us in their forecast ? I often wonder why Ted (WAGM) includes all the way down to Boston, who cares ? We don't live there, give me local forecasts, not the whole state and then some.

FNolan, that's exactly right. There is almost no connection between the Portland area and northern Maine. So that's why they don't show up here.
Our local news (WAGM) highlights New Brunswick, not southern Maine.
Northern Maine and southern Maine have almost nothing in common, and probably never will.

We just moved here a few months ago. The WLBZ/WCSH weather drives us nuts because they talk about weather up here, but they aren't correct. However, it was the same down state. They basically concern themselves with Portland and New Hampshire.

Even the weather channel thinks Maine is still part of Mass. During any kind of weather event Me is considedred Northern New England at best

Bangor is its own media market, and as others have mentioned, The County has WAGM, so people in those locations are unlikely or unable to watch the Portland coverage, and the people in Greater Portland probably don't care very much.

I do not see why Boston or any of it's bedroom communities would care about Maine.

This week, Paul LePage was reelected with the most votes ever obtained by any Maine Governor. Portland voted 70% against Paul LePage. Portland suburbs voted for Paul. Northern Maine voted 70% for him. He is the reason that Maine led the entire nation in percentage of voter turnout.

here is a maine voting map

northern maine land man is right- Portland is the liberal mecca of maine

however, even if you are a liberal up north or downeast maine or central, you wont be harassed, most mainers don't discuss politics with strangers

ive talked more politics on here than ever in real life.

Portland Versus Aroostook County.-2014_maine_gubernatorial_county_map.png.
