As it turns out I will be going to Tiltons Auction tomorrow with Mister KAF.

I need to get their spring schedule, and he needs to sell a critter.

Just got home from Tiltons Auction.

Arrrgh, these guys can be very frustrating.

No signs out front.

No newspaper notices.

And nobody in the parking lot.

We walked through the auction yard, the lights were all off and the chalk board inside where they normally display the schedule of up-coming auctions has been wiped clean.

After a while we drove 1/2 mile down the road and saw some guys working on a new steel building about the size of my new house, asked them and as it turns out Tilton is building this new structure to be the new site of the auction yard.

Their first auction at the new site will be in March.

Sorry, it's been crazy here lately, and haven't gotten on. We took 2 kids and 7 rabbits to auction Monday, and did pretty well money-wise. Was the first time we tried out Clark's Livestock Auction, and we were very happy with the results. Ran into several farmers that we knew there, and got some good info as well as the kids and rabbits selling.

We do indeed sell goats and rabbits for meat, and our USDA certified meat that is processed at a facility in Guilford or West Gardiner is pretty much available at any given time. The goat meat that is USDA processed goes for $5 a pound, freezer wrapped. The rabbits go for $4 a pound most of the time. We sell live rabbits as well... and live goats for that matter. There are several ways that we sell if you know what I mean. Our animals live a wonderful life from the moment they are born until the moment they are slaughtered. We give them love and attention, and each has a name. Well, most have names. The rabbits we tend to get so overwhelmed that they get numbers, oops. lol. Still cared for the same. The kid goats however are named, petted, loved and cuddled. Then their time comes, and they are gone. BUT humane is how we raise animals and slaughter them. We currently have 3 meat goats that will be ready for slaughter in a few week's time, and some rabbits on hand as well.

KAF, do you have your rabbits processed in Guilford? I wouldn't mind raising a few to take in when I take the pigs in the fall.

Wait, wait. Stop the bus. Maine Writer, I can understand having a pig processed, but a rabbit? I can do your rabbits for ya. I'm not a USDA inspector, but I don't mind doing the deed fer ya.

The only trouble I have is making them go from alive to dead. That's what my pistol is for.
