Good for you.

1. Do you have a 65 foot driveway, leading to a 2 car garage?

2. Are you 60 year old or older?

3. Do you live in the snow belt where last year we got 155 inches of snow, and 3 foot drifts across that 65 foot driveway?

4. Do you have the snowplow come in 3 times in each snow storm clearing the road and plowing in an additional 4 feet of snow across the end of your driveway each time?

If all of those are true and you shovel it all by yourself, then under your shirt is a costume with a BIG "S" on it.

Absolutely !! As stated and true- we were also using our snow blower just about daily from Jan to like March it seemed. Even in just that one incident of 5 days, we got a over 76 inches of snow.

When pickups can no longer get into a driveway, the man with a snowblower is king. There is satisfaction in chewing up that dense packed snow and blowing it 40 feet into the woods where it belongs. ;-)

YUP... last winter I was still blowing my snow into the yard when the guys with the snow plows on their trucks could no longer move any more snow in driveways.

And adding the other condition the snow plowed driveways and roads had- the snow became so dense like an ice fort- unable to to budge ! Meanwhile- here we are stil able to throw our snow where ever we needed to...

Plenty of neighbors around us had huge piles of snow in dense packed snow ! No getting that stuff out of way for sure.
( I started a thread last winter here of " where to put the snow" it was getting so silly around here... )

It is a 1974 John Deere Model 726 32" x19 " ( snow pick up). He is 41 years young and also has a cab/tent. Does not have all the bells and whistles of younger blowers, but does a great job of the snow.
Short work of any storm it threw at us last year.

We have the above only we changed the engine out just recently to a 10hp Tucumshe ( sp? ) . It did a great job last year and that cab comes in handy if the wind is really blowing.

slyfox2 laments:
"Looks like its a new blower at this point in the winter. Maybe IF this was July, it might be different, but I surely cannot wait until late December to have a functional snow blower. If we have several snow storms, which is always possible, I could find myself with an additional $150 in plow expenses, plus $60 for them to look at it, up to $210 before I've even had a repair estimate."

We are going to have a real winter. Get a real snowblower. Buy once, cry once. My son got one last year. If it breaks, they will come to you and fix it that day. His did not break, but that's a pretty good guarantee. He got his from Snow Blowers Direct. It was delivered 4 days after he ordered it.

They are also available through Tractor Supply, one of my favorite stores.

I wish you luck with that as have known a few people that have that blower and they are problematic. They are also difficult to handle as the drive is not affected by the rate of speed of the rotary/blower blades. This creates for a situation that the drive of the engine/wheels is going at a faster speed than the propulsion creating sliding and slipping...

Problematic running is 90% caused by ethanol in the gas. I will be using ethanol free with blue marine stabil. Cub goes to great lengths to explain the dangers of ethanol in their machine, and they will have engine issues if they are run with ethanol gas, just like my Honda outboard did. They tell you to get rid of any gas over a month old. My outboard guy tells me not to use any ethanol gas without replacement for longer than 2 weeks.

Mine also has a 3 year warranty, plus three years after that.

As to the drive, I have to laugh. I was using a 19 year old Toro. It had no refinement at all. But the machine has 6 forward speeds, as well as the ability to steer it through releasing the power to one wheel or the other. Besides, I don't have an asphalt driveway, so I can't drive beyond 1st or second gear because of the uneven terrain under it. At that low a forward speed, its not likely I'm going to have trouble controlling it.

People online have disagreed with your statements in regard to all of it. We'll see who is right. But like I said, I was using a very very old one before, and before that I had one that was even older.
