Just read through this page. No one is addressing the issues espoused by the candidates. They don't like Cain because she isn't from Maine. Under what definition is that not xenophobic?
And who gets to decide who is a xenophobe?? You??
(Maybe if the word wasn't tossed around like candy these days I would get a bit more hurt by the accusation.....)

Xenophobe | Define Xenophobe at Dictionary.com

noun
1.
a person who fears or hates foreigners, strange customs, etc.

If you dislike or distrust someone simply because their family hasn't lived here for four generations, you are a xenophobe. I certainly don't think that represents most Mainers. They are an extreme minority --- but unfortunately a vocal one. And there are three or four of them who hang out in this forum.

If the shoe doesn't fit you, don't worry about it. The criticism doesn't apply to you.

If the shoe does fit, please change your shoes. You're making the rest of your fellow Mainers look bad.

I consider myself a Mainer. I've lived here for 5 years. I lived in Pennsylvania for 61 years(I lived in Nutley, NJ for a year when Martha Stewart was in Junior High there).

Nobody in PA would ever even bring up the subject of not being a real Pennsylvanian. Its just dumb, and another kind of bigotry. Only in Maine.

However, I wouldn't run for office.

I don't worry too, too much about what others think of me.
But for what it's worth, you might want to consider being a bit more tolerant??....

I can say this about your post. It is sane, it proves something, and it puts something very important into perspective. Thank you for providing a definition.

I've posted on the Maine forum before. I used to go by the username pirate_lafitte before changing it to green_mariner.

I should be more tolerant of others behaving intolerantly? Yeah, I'll get right on that.

I didn't even know where Cain was from, my issue with her is watching her flat out lie, even though the truth is available and has been known for *years*.

In this particular case, of course, I'm referencing her story about Poliquin and his RE taxes and his 'pretending to be a logger'. I wanted to know the truth so I spent some time the other day, hunting it down. ....
There have been a number of times when I have seen the media carry a false story, and later you can introduce 'truth' but nobody wants to hear it.

I have seen now when Poliquin's land comes up in conversation everyone has convicted him in their minds, even though he did not wrong. Since Poliquin changed the tax status of his land, the uneducated see that as an admission of guilt.

I too own land in 'Treegrowth'. Some of my 'treegrowth' land is river frontage, which makes in 'shoreland protection'. It can never been harvested.

Great! And I'll get right on being more "cosmopolitan" and less stuffy!
