Hi Frozen Maine Brothers & Sisters...

So, we think it's Cold where we are, right.

Well, sure, it is Record breaking Cold, here in the shivering Pine Tree State!

Today, here in little Peru, just South of Rumford, and next to the Androscoggin River (which hasn't frozen yet ???) it was the Coldest in many years according to my longtime 84 yr old lady neighbor Bunny.

Our daily high temp was -2.5 degrees, with last nights overnight low, of -11.
Tonight, we're supposed to hit -14.

Ahh, but that's nothing, folks...

I listen to a NOAA Weather Radio, daily, throughout the day, and the temperature alone this evening, was -40, with the winds at a sustained 80 -90+ mph, making the Windchill -98 degrees making it the SECOND Coldest spot on Earth, running #2 only after Scott Base in Antarctica.

So, we're not doing too bad here in the Great Northeast then are we.

How Cold was it at your location?

We're getting off relatively easily I suppose by comparison on the coast of northern MA, but it was -2 degrees when I finally got out of bed at 8 o'clock this morning, pretty cold for these parts - I think it's been 3 weeks or so since we have seen any high temps in the 30s. Hi Kevin,

Well, Mt Washington is of course in the U.S.
Measurements given over the NOAA Weather Radio is in Fahrenheit.

So, the answer to your answer, about last night's temperature reading is -40 Farenhiet.

At the other end of the World Temperatures scale....

I listen to stations over Internet Radio.
One of my favorite World stations is Radio Australia.

They are, of course in the Southern Hemisphere, and are in Summer.
Yesterday (which was their Sunday) they had high's in the range of 40C toe 46/47C.
40C = 104 F
47C=116 F

Amazing isn't it!

Stay warm!

LOL, I get a kick out of seeing weather reports from cities in other states, seeing them making a big deal out of it when the 'wind chill' is "almost zero" and when I went to work that morning and the *actual* temp was -26(F) (no idea what the wind chill temp was, but it was quite gusty).

But, it all depends on what you are accustomed to, and whether you have the proper clothing to manage it. Mrs. Z went on a trip to Hawaii once, and related her amusement at the residents wearing snorkel parkas when the temp dipped to 60, while she was comfy in shorts.

Even so, I still shake my head when I see college/high school kids wearing shorts and t-shirts here when the temps are around zero. Suffering for style? Not me, I really like my LL Bean lined jeans and Warden's Parka.

I believe it's a trick question because -40C and -40F is the same temperature.

Not "Was that -40 F or -40 C?". It is -40 F AND -40 C.
