Aside from Portland, are there any other foodie towns in Maine?

In addition to Rockland, Kittery Foreside neighborhood, Camden/Rockport and Bar Harbor all have nice restaurants and upscale grocers.

Though I love Bar Harbor I think it's surprisingly deficient in regard to great restaurants.

There are at least three fine dining restaurants I can recollect in the area. One is called "Havana" and it's in downown Bar Harbor. Very nice and great cuisine. The other is called "Burning Tree" at 69 Otter Creek Drive, just about a mile from Blackwoods Campground. Now, travel into Southwest Harbor and you'll find "Red Sky" 14 Clark Point Road in Southwest Harbor. Reservations are required at Burning Tree and Red Sky and bring your wallet but you get what you pay for and you were looking for fine dining. In Northeast Harbor there's a farm to table restaurant called "The Ford & Table". I haven't eaten there but I know others who have and like that kind of cuisine. So there are a few really nice places you can dress for and be pretty much guaranteed a delightful meal.

Admittedly there are a thousand "good" places to eat on this island. Places like Jordan Pond are very very nice ( our family's favorite when we go to Acadia) as are many of the established places in Bar Harbor directly. But they are not "fine dining" unlike the three places I've highlighted here. Portland has more but frankly, I go to Mt. Desert Island for more than fine dining although having these handful of places available is a nice option.

Rome

The OP hasn't offered details of their taste, but in my opinion, a great meal can mean different things to different people - to some, that requires a novel visual and taste experience, to others, refined tableware, linens and music.... to others, it can include common food that's simply done very well - there can be artistry and rich sensory experience in down-home food, or a great meal can be made by a beautiful natural setting... I recall reading an interview with a NY Times restaurant critic who shared that his favorite food was a great cheeseburger!

Bangor and surrounding communities aren’t going to knock your socks off from a culinary perspective and aren’t “foodie towns,” but the area definitely meets expectations for a metro of its size. You can get a good meal there. You might be as well off there as you would be in any town outside of Greater Portland.

We have Burger King, McDonald's, Subway, Dunkin Donuts and Tim Hortons in my town. We're all set!

5 dollars a paper plate …. all you can eat … and don't fight over the snout.... one guy almost got shot for stealing the snout last summer..

and if there's enough lady's we may have a miss pigroast contest.....
