Hi, Our family is considering moving to Maine. I would appreciate any input on the best areas to look to rent in that are good for families.

Also, if there are any areas to stay away from that would help as well.

What do you plan to do for work when you get here? What do you like to do for entertainment? Are you looking for a place in the middle of nowhere or close to certain amenities? Lots of information will help us help you.

My wife and I work from home so we can really be anywhere.

Not looking to be out in the middle of nowhere... in a town or city that has outdoor things to do and good place for kids. We love to get out and walk and enjoy the outdoors.

Also in a safe area.

I would recommend Hallowell. Pretty, nice, safe, charming.

Lincoln and Lee have 23 lakes and many trails. We have DSL and satellite for internet. Housing costs are low because most people don't bring their jobs with them.

Looks like you have lots of homework to do.

The state of Maine covers a lot of area, with varied climates, topography, city/rural living, and on and on and on.

All the best with your search for place.

When we were looking to move, high speed internet was an issue because we also work from home and sling huge video production files up and down our ISP.
I'd say 30% of our possible home picks had to be jettisoned from consideration due to the lack of true high speed internet availability. (satellite is too expensive/slow for our purposes, at least when we last looked).
