Does anyone know a good, reliable plumber for domestic plumbing? Everyone we can find is just interested in large, commercial jobs. It seems to be impossible to find someone to install a dishwasher or fix a toilet. Any local suggestions?

Call the town office or a real estate broker

It's hard to find a tradesman for a small job, anywhere, these days. If it's something you can't figure out yourself, another option for those simpler things is a local "handyman". While you might prefer a licensed plumber, those guys typical charge at a lower rate and have better availability.

Thanks for the suggestions and for responding. From what I know, this is an ongoing problem for people living in the most rural parts of Maine. I called the town office two years ago, got the name of a good plumber from them, and his phone now just rings and rings with no answer for weeks at a time. I've lived in Maine for a very long time, in quite a few towns, and the more rural the place the more difficult it is to get any kind of paid help. It's rarely mentioned when giving advice to those who want to move here, but it's worse than an annoyance. Having water pouring out of a pipe or other household emergency and being unable to get any sort of help should be a major consideration, especially for people who plan to retire to Maine and may be unable to do these sort of repairs themselves or are accustomed to paying for professionals to do them. Thanks again for the suggestion, and it gives me an idea for a thread that I think would be worth posting.
