I was babysitting at my grandchildren's house and saw EBT cards in each of my granddaughter's names--something to do with pandemic, and food lunches and how the elementary schools went to giving all children breakfasts and lunches. So I don't have any problem with that, but now they give them EBT cards?

My dil and son make so much money more than I ever made, and I do not understand why my grandchildren should get welfare--this kind of bothers me, although my husband said it's no big deal.

Do any of you have opinions about this?

We've only lived in the state three years now.

I have an opinion but like opinions in general, it doesn't make a difference. Here's a link to information on the program.

Did you ask you Daughter what the cards were for or are you just assuming here? Are the cards for the kids to get what all other kids in school are getting (whatever that might be)?

No, I looked up the cards and it says they are for days the kids are remote or absent from school. They are to be spent at the grocery store for food. All Maine schoolkids who have remote learning are getting them, but their school no longer has remote learning. Apparently some were sent out after the pandemic in September.

I assume in Maine there are" snow days", will they have remote learning during those or in case of being home sick?

Since the ending of the pandemic remote learning structure, they no longer have remote learning at their school.
Snow days are not remote learning days. Snow days are tacked on to the end of the year here.

*I think being home sick counts, and their cards are funded for the number of days they are home sick. Not sure about when they have parent teacher conferences, etc, days when there is no school.

Snow days, usually three, are built into the school calendar. If there are additional days, they're made up at the end of the year. There aren't many schools still using remote learning for snow days.
