Birds are already migrating. If you stand outside at night and listen carefully you might hear some of them as they fly overhead. The next full moon is September 15. For a week before and after you might see some of these birds by looking toward the moon on clear nights. The migration will continue into October's full moon.

Default Geese

I know- a whole gaggle of geese are in the field across from the school I teach at. They are lounging about and seem to be enjoying the last lazy hazy days of summer. I smell fall, so I am sure they do too!

Yes, really! We have been noticing birds doing their pre-migration "exercise" (which is what I call their coordinated crazy flight patterns) but have not yet noticed a whole lot of flocking. Next state over, CT, has a year-round flock of Canadas that are 'residents' and stay over winter, but they move from northern CT to southern. I have not noticed many (any?) residents here in RI. The geese tend to flock on cut-over corn fields, of which we have quite a few here. They get sassy at this time of year, even when our grandchildren run into the fields the geese will not fly off, just move a bit and hiss at them!

A chorus of crickets is all we wake to nowadays - no songbirds (sniff)!

Send the birds here. All I see are sparrows and doves. Oh, and hummingbirds. Have 4 of them. One sounds like a helicopter coming in. I need to double check but I think the sandhill cranes migrate to this area. If so, we will definitely be going to take some photos, and I will share.

I can't wait. I am kind of tired of looking at brown sparrows. LOL
Got a pair of binoculars today so I am ready.
