I lived in the Mechinic Falls, Lewiston area from 1950-1958 (ages 5-15) so my memory may not be so good, but anyway, I am planning a vacation back to the area in June (18 -22) to show my grandson where I grew-up. Would like to know about casual fishing in the area and other things to do. Remember swiming in Tripp Lake, Snow Falls, and fishing along the roads. I am sure things have changed since then. I am also a food junkie now and remember a warm lobster roll that we could buy at road side lunchetts and stores, is there still such a thing?Every thing that I read about lobster rolls has either mayo or butter, not the warm creamy sauce that I remember. How about the bright red hot dogs?

We're in NJ now but over the summer moving to Central Maine. We have vactioned in Bath and surrounding coastal areas over the past few years. I can tell you that up in Central Main the red hot dogs do exist. What is that about anyway?? My little ones ordered them at a restaurant and they showed up on their dinner plates. You should have seen the expressions on their faces. They refused to eat them (I didn't blame them!). So funny. Also, all accounts of our lobster roll experiences have been made with mayo. Along the coast you can still grab a roll from little roadside stands set up and, of course, any restaurant will offer you their version. Enjoy your visit this summer.

Thanks for the reply. I remember those dogs from family picnics. Don't remember eating them at home, parents made comments about what made them red. Will have to try again.

We jokingly call them LOBSTERDOGS because of their color!
