I had a friend at Barksdale in '77 who got an OUI riding a bicycle on base. A tad different but all in all he paid a fine and got a letter of reprimand.

There is ONE Maine, there are several different types of lifestyles within Maine. What might be wonderful in Cutler for you, maybe not be heaven for someone living in Bethel, Jackman, Bristol, Naples, Millinocket or Wells. Perks are every where and differ for everyone.

No. I think Maine is better run than many other states. Sometimes the state has to decide what's good for people because they don't decide for themselves. Unfortunately, stupidity is not against the law.

I have to admit.... I'm in the dark on this whole thing. The only things I could come up with when I read the OP was "not smoking in cars with young children" and some land use regs.... neither of those apply to me--I don't smoke, and I don't own acreage. So, I'm sitting back and reading and learning on this one, less posting!

Healthcare actually doesn't cost a lot, its that we PAY a lot for our level of healthcare. Very different.

Look at just about EVERY other industrialized country in the world. Most pay much less than we do for their healthcare for an equivalent (and sometimes superior) level of service.

Isn't that due to the socialistic form of government?

agreed- there are perks to life no matter where you live- i was just responding that one of them happens to be fewer enforcement to population ratios in this end of the world, therefore the 'nanny state' that is being reffered to in the op is less of an issue.
